The Book of Psalms

Psalm 43

A Prayer in a Time of Trouble

1VINDICATE me, O God,
and defend my cause against an ungodly nation.

Deliver me from deceitful and unjust men! 2 You are the God of my strength.
Why have You cast me off? Why must I go about mournfully,
because I am oppressed by my enemies? 3 Send forth Your light and Your truth;
let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy mountain,
to the place where You dwell. 4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God, my greatest joy. With the harp I will praise You,
O God, my God. 5 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me? Place your hope in God,
for I will yet praise Him, my Saviour, and my God.

About Psalms Chapter 43

Book II · Psalms 42–72 — Longing for God, deliverance and royal hope

What happens

The writer asks God to defend him against an unjust nation and to send light and truth to lead him back to the holy altar. He questions his own despair and ends by calling himself to hope in God.

Why it matters

Prayer seeks not merely relief from opponents but restoration of fellowship with God. His truth provides direction when fear and discouragement distort the way forward.

Key verse
