God Creates Life on Earth
Origins Page 45
Yet within this radiant sphere lies one of the greatest marvels of God’s divine engineering — a self-sustaining, precisely balanced stellar nuclear fusion reactor star that has burned steadily under His command and oversight since Creation.
Indeed the brilliance and energy the Sun produces are the product of perfect design: a balance between the inward pull of gravity and the outward pressure of massive nuclear fusion.
The Sun’s Dimensions and Magnitude
The Sun stands as a monument of scale and order, an awe-inspiring display of magnitude and stability in the Creator’s Universe.
- Diameter: approximately 1.39 million km (864,000 miles) — about 109 times Earth’s diameter.
- Volume: > 1.4 × 1027 m3 — enough to contain more than 1.3 million Earths.
- Mass: 1.989 × 1030 kg — about 99.86% of the Solar System’s total mass.
- Surface Area: approximately 6.09 × 1012 km2 — more than 12,000 Earths.
- Average Density: approximately 1.41 g/cm3 (low overall, yet with an interior under colossal pressure).
What If the Sun’s Fusion Burned Too Fast?
Though its mass is enormous, the Sun’s density and structure are finely tuned for balance. Were it slightly denser, nuclear fusion would proceed too rapidly; were it lighter, nuclear fusion might never ignite. Instead, it burns at just the right rate — a cosmic equilibrium established by Divine wisdom and phenomenal power.
If Fusion Accelerated
If nuclear fusion inside the Sun were ever to accelerate, the results would be catastrophic and terminal for both the Sun and for all life on Earth. Such a runaway reaction would radically transform our star. The following sections explain the major consequences:
- Runaway Energy Output: The Sun would shine far more brightly, releasing extreme heat and radiation. Earth’s surface would toast in the intense heat, boiling the oceans and destroying the atmosphere’s balance.
- Solar Expansion and Instability: The rapid energy release would cause the Sun’s outer layers to expand violently, turning it into a red-giant-like star long before its natural time. It would lose mass and eject material into space, destabilizing the Solar System.
- Shortened Lifespan: With hydrogen consumed too quickly, the Sun’s stable operating phase
- would end prematurely. Instead of functioning efficiently and effectively as God intended, it would overheat, scorch, and destroy the Earth, killing all life. Eventually the Sun would burn out in a massive outpouring of
